Agnes Water and the surrounding Discovery Coast region will soon benefit from the expansion of IMPACT Community Services’ Foundations for Life program, which provides free midwifery care for young mums and mums-to-be (under 25).
This program is a lifeline for young women in the community who would otherwise need to travel to Bundaberg or Gladstone for antenatal and postnatal care. Dee Cosgrove, a registered midwife, nurse, and child health nurse, brings her expertise to ICHS, offering support for women navigating pregnancy, childbirth, and those critical first few weeks postpartum.
Regular appointments will be available on-site at ICHS, meaning that young mothers in Agnes Water can now receive essential care without having to travel long distances. The program provides a range of services including birth preparation, parenting education, breastfeeding support and much more.
With Foundations for Life already supporting young mothers in Bundaberg, we’re excited to provide the same opportunity for those in Agnes Water.
Dee highlights the importance of this holistic care approach: “It’s not just babies that are born; it’s parents that are born as well. They’re experiencing a whole new chapter themselves.”
This new service in Agnes Water is designed to bring the same level of care to a region where young mums have limited local resources. Dee will work closely with client GPs and delivery hospitals to ensure seamless, shared care.
The program is free of charge and is designed to create healthier, happier families by focusing on education, confidence-building, and support during pregnancy and early parenthood.
